Course Overview

The LLB (Hons) Law and Legal Practice Degree is a comprehensive three-year program designed to provide students with a thorough understanding of English law and practical legal skills. This unique program is the first and only LLB course accredited by the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx) Regulation, allowing graduates to be exempt from the whole CILEx professional education standards assessments. Students will develop professional legal skills through hands-on clinical practice, gain Westlaw UK certification, and have the opportunity to work in the Bloomsbury Law Clinic. The program covers all essential areas of law including contract, criminal, land, public, and EU law, while providing pathways to multiple legal professions including Chartered Legal Executive, Solicitor, and Barrister.

Course Structure

Year 1 (Level 4)

Law and the Legal System

Broad understanding of legal methods and systems including nature of law, classifications, sources, precedent, statutory interpretation, court structure, and core contract principles.

Clinical Legal Practice

Develop professional legal clinical skills including client care, professional conduct, collaborative working, file management, client interviews, legal research, and drafting. Achieve Westlaw UK Basic Certification.

Dispute Resolution

Broad overview of Contract and Tort law with focus on key aspects of civil litigation in contractual or tortious disputes.

Public and EU Law

Understanding of UK constitution, key principles, European Convention on Human Rights, Human Rights Act 1998, and impact of EU Law following Brexit. Study public bodies and judicial review.

Year 2 (Level 5)

Criminal Law and Practice

Principles of criminal liability including strict liability offences, homicide, specific defences, non-fatal offences, property offences, attempts, and general defences.

Land Law and Conveyancing

Key principles, rules, and concepts of Land Law. Skills to critically analyse and apply concepts to solve practical problems. Principles of conveyancing and property transfer.

Equity, Wills and Probate

Fundamental principles, rules and concepts governing Equity, Wills and Probate. Critical analysis and application to real-life scenarios including trusts and wills.

Conduct, Professional Ethics and Accounts

Understanding of conduct regulations (SRA and CILEx Codes), CILEx Accounts Rules, advanced Westlaw UK certification, and AI in legal services.

Year 3 (Level 6)

Civil Litigation and Advocacy

Key principles and techniques of Civil Litigation and Advocacy. Develop advocacy skills for real-life situations. Legal professional ethics and duties of adviser and advocate.

Immigration Law and Practice

Legal framework governing immigration including Human Rights Act, EU Law, and UK immigration rules. Ethical considerations and practical skills for client advice.

Conveyancing

Comprehensive understanding of conveyancing process. Legal professional ethics in conveyancing. Critical analysis and application of key issues in practical situations.
